Ranchi/ Hazaribag:

An official reported that strong fog at Birsa Munda Airport, Ranchi here on Thursday caused the cancellation of 19 flights and the diversion of 2 others.

At least 1,300 meters of visibility is needed for a safe takeoff or landing.

According to a meteorologist, Ranchi had visibility of 50–500 meters until 2 p.m. on Thursday.

The flights were canceled today because of severe weather, according to Ranch Airport Director RR Mourya.

Because flights were cancelled, many people had to endure the inconvenience of being stuck at the airport at odd hours.

As for how the flight operators handle customer complaints, that is the duty of those companies, according to another airport official. The blame game continued as the matter worsened.

Even on Friday, foggy conditions may persist, according to Abhishek Anand, head of the Ranchi Meteorological Centre.

On Friday, a strong fog warning will be in effect. On Sunday and Saturday, the fog might be less dense. As a result, Anand announced that January 20 and 22 will be marked by a yellow alert.

On Thursday, authorities in Hazaribag announced the deaths of two individuals in two separate unfortunate car accidents caused by the heavy fog that had reduced visibility.
