Maldives President Muizzu Terminates Hydrographic Survey Agreement with India- The Hard News Daily

New Delhi: President Mohamed Muizzu of the Maldives announced that his nation will not be extending its hydrographic surveying arrangement with India. Rather, the Maldives plans to purchase the facilities and tools required to conduct these studies on its own.

He also declared his intention to install a round-the-clock surveillance system for the waters surrounding the Maldives this month in an effort to improve control over the country’s expansive Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

Days after China and the Maldives inked a defense cooperation pact to exchange free military support in an effort to strengthen bilateral relations, this development takes place. Since pro-China Muizzu took power last year, relations between India and the Maldives have faced difficulties.

Soon after taking office in November 2023, Muizzu promised to protect the sovereignty of the Maldives, and according to PTI, one of his first actions would be to demand that India remove all of its troops.

The decision made by President Muizzu coincides with recent events, such as the appearance of a Chinese research vessel close to Male and beyond the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the Maldives.

Speaking during a ceremony on Monday while on a visit to one of the islands, Muizzu stressed the Maldives’ efforts to acquire the resources required to carry out hydrographic studies on their own.

This will enable the Maldives to carry out independent underwater surveys throughout the nation. The president was cited as stating, “We will then gather all insights of our underwater features and prepare charts, they will be drawn by us,” on Tuesday by the news portal Edition.mv.

The Agreement President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s Former Government Signed

The accord, which was inked during President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s previous administration, made it easier to work with India to scan and gather information about the underwater bodies of the Maldives.

“We made the decision not to extend our contract with the Indian government to conduct an underwater body scan and obtain all relevant data. According to Muizzu, all of these underwater information are part of our legacy and belong to us. Previously, the Maldives had to buy all of these maps and survey data from India.

The declaration highlights the Maldives’ plan to evaluate over 100 accords inked by past administrations, including its ties with India. For the first time, Muizzu has discussed his government’s plans for a hydrographic survey in public.

the choice to cease the partnership on hydrographic surveys with India, which was started during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 2019 Maldives visit. “The previous President had secured the parliament’s consent to enable these hydrography services in the Maldives and grant the Defense Ministry access to the facility,” Edition.mv stated.

President Muizzu announced intentions to build a 24-hour monitoring system for Maldivian waterways on Saturday, reaffirming his government’s commitment to bolstering maritime security and sovereignty. He underlined the significance of this effort while visiting Raa Meedhoo, telling PTI that the Maldives’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) is double the size of its landmass but has insufficient capacity for efficient monitoring.

“Even though the EEZ is a part of our land, we were unable to keep an eye on it. With God willing, we will start monitoring the waters in the Maldives in March.

According to the information received,  the Maldives Coastguard presently depends on the regular support of the armed forces of its neighbors and carries out specific special patrolling operations in conjunction with foreign friends.

WB Explores Live Service Strategy Despite Suicide Squad Setback, Signals Move Beyond Traditional Triple-A Titles

WB Explores Live Service Strategy Despite Suicide Squad Setback, Signals Move Beyond Traditional Triple-A Titles - The Hard News Daily

Despite Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s lackluster critical and commercial reception, Warner Bros. Games is still planning to leverage the live service approach for their games in the future. At a recent Morgan Stanley speaking event, J.B. Perrette, CEO and President of Global Streaming and Games at Warner Bros. Discovery, outlined the company’s gaming strategy. She reiterated the studio’s plans to increase investment in free-to-play games, mobile titles, and the “games as a service” model. She also expressed skepticism regarding the “volatile” business of custom triple-A games on consoles.

Speaking at the recent Technology Media and Telecom Conference held by Morgan Stanley, Perette proposed a strategic move away from triple-A releases while reiterating Warner Bros.’ commitment to turning its greatest brands into live service games.

The issue we’ve had is that our industry has traditionally relied heavily on triple-A consoles. Having a hit like Harry Potter (Hogwarts Legacy) is fantastic for business because it elevates the entire year. Furthermore, it becomes extremely unpredictable when there isn’t a release, or regrettably, when there are setbacks like Suicide Squad, which was only released this quarter and wasn’t as successful, the executive stated.

Existing Warner Bros. properties like Mortal Kombat, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, and DC, according to Perrette, gave the company a chance to diversify its product line beyond console games. “We believe there’s a chance to take those four franchises and create a much more comprehensive strategy, especially with regard to growing into the mobile and multi-platform free-to-play market, which can provide us with a much better and more reliable stream of income,” he stated. The executive declared that later this year, WB Games will release a number of free-to-play mobile games.

Due to lengthy production cycles and expensive development costs, WB Games appears to be losing faith in triple-A platform releases, even with the huge success of Hogwarts Legacy last year. However, the studio feels that a live service model can provide more constant revenue generation and ongoing engagement. Warner Bros. would likely try to build more of its current games around the live service model, according to Perette, who also hinted that a Hogwarts Legacy sequel might provide something similar. “How do we create a game around, say, Hogwarts Legacy or Harry Potter, that is a live service, where people can continue to live and work and build and play in that world on an ongoing basis, rather than just launching a one-and-done console game?” he said.

During an earnings call in November of last year, Warner Bros. had disclosed its plan to venture into the live service market. The business intended to turn its largest video game properties into long-term goods, according to statements made by WB CEO David Zaslav. Zaslav had stated at the time, “Ultimately, we want to drive engagement and monetization of longer cycles and at higher levels.”

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, the studio’s most recent triple-A film that used a live-action looter-shooter style, failed, but it doesn’t seem to be deterred. The game allegedly failed to live up to Warner Bros.’s expectations after its debut last month for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. 208 users are currently playing the third-person shooter on Steam as of this writing, with a peak player count of little over 13,000 at one point in time. Kill the Justice League’s live service approach, along with its “baffling design choices, mundane mission structure, and unclear identity,” significantly hindered the game’s potential, according to our own 6/10 evaluation.

It appears that the games as a service concept has reached saturation as well, as multiple titles are vying for players’ attention. While well-known titles like Call of Duty and Fortnite have performed well, more recent games have had difficulty successfully implementing the paradigm. It also appears that highly commercialized live service games are becoming less popular with players.

With over 22 million copies sold, the single-player console game Hogwarts Legacy—which lacks live service features and microtransactions—became the best-selling title of the previous year.

Revisiting the Legacy of Veer Savarkar: Heroism and Controversy Intertwined - The Hard News Daily

Introduction

Veer Savarkar’s legacy, marked by fervent nationalism and contentious ideologies, remains a polarizing topic in India’s socio-political discourse. Born Vinayak Damodar Savarkar in 1883, his contributions as a revolutionary freedom fighter and ideologue have painted him as both a revered figure and a controversial subject.

The resurgence of interest and debate surrounding his legacy underscores the complex narrative of India’s freedom struggle and its post-independence political evolution.

Let’s delve deeper to dissect the life, ideologies, and the persisting controversies encircling Veer Savarkar.

Early Life and Ideology of Savarkar

Savarkar’s journey from a young nationalist in Bhagur, Maharashtra, to a law student and political activist in London set the stage for his radical contributions to India’s independence movement. His advocacy for armed resistance against British rule culminated in his imprisonment and subsequent life sentence in the harrowing Cellular Jail in the Andaman Islands.

These experiences deeply influenced Savarkar’s ideology, crafting a staunch advocate for Hindutva or Hindu nationalism, which he envisioned as a cultural and territorial identity uniting all Indians against foreign subjugation and internal discord.

Controversial Aspects of Veer Savarkar

Revisiting the Legacy of Veer Savarkar: Heroism and Controversy Intertwined - The Hard News Daily

Savarkar’s legacy is mired in controversy due to several aspects of his life and ideology. Critics point to his mercy petitions sent to the British government while imprisoned as a betrayal of his revolutionary stance.

Furthermore, his role in the Hindu Mahasabha and his alleged involvement in the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi, for which he was acquitted due to lack of direct evidence, have added layers of complexity to his persona.

The ideological standpoint of Hindutva that Savarkar championed is another point of contention. While he argued for a collective Indian identity beyond religious lines, his critics accuse him of fostering Hindu majoritarianism, thereby marginalizing minority communities and contributing to communal tensions.

Legacy and Recent Controversies of Veer Savarkar

The legacy of Veer Savarkar continues to be contested terrain in Indian politics and society. Advocates hail him as an unsung hero of the freedom movement and a visionary who foresaw the cultural pillars that could unify a diverse nation.

Conversely, detractors criticize his exclusionary ideologies and question his contributions to India’s independence.

Recent controversies have reignited debates over Savarkar’s legacy, spurred by moves to honor him with national awards and the renaming of public institutions in his name. These actions have sparked intense debates among historians, politicians, and the public, reflecting the enduring divisions in how Savarkar’s life and contributions are interpreted and valued.

Conclusion

Understanding Savarkar’s legacy requires a nuanced examination of the historical context, his personal journey, and the ideological shifts that have shaped modern India. As discussions around his legacy persist, they reflect the broader challenges of reconciling a nation’s past with its present and future aspirations.

Kerala Man's killed in Israel: A Pregnant Widow and Four-Year-Old Daughter Mourn- The Hard News Daily

Kollam:

Just two months have passed since the 31-year-old Indian man died in a missile attack close to the Israel-Lebanon border. He was living in Kollam, Kerala. His wife, who was expecting, and their five-year-old daughter waved him off. They had no idea that it would be their last goodbye.

Know More about Israeli-Arab War

Pat Nibin Maxwell perished yesterday in Margaliot, north of Israel, when a rocket struck close to an orchard. The attack also injured two other people, who were from Kerala. Two Idukki residents, Paul Melvin and Bush Joseph George, are receiving medical care in an Israeli hospital.

The “cowardly terror attack launched by Shia terror organization Hezbollah on peaceful agriculture workers who were cultivating an orchard” has been denounced by the Israeli embassy in India. Maxwell’s brother has met with Israel’s envoy to India, Naor Gilon, who has assured him of all assistance.

According to Nibin’s father Pathrose, the 31-year-old went to Israel with his older brother. “After visiting Dubai and Muscat, he went back home. He then traveled to Israel. My older son went there first. My youngest son came about a week later,” he stated.

Pathrose Maxwell claimed that his daughter-in-law informed him of the news. “On Monday at 4:30 p.m., she gave me a call to let me know that Nibin had been hurt in the attack and was being treated at the hospital. We learned of his death later, around 12:45 in the morning.”

The horrified father revealed that his wife is seven months pregnant with their second child, and Nibin has left behind a daughter who is four and a half years old.

Following paperwork and regulations, Nibin’s body is anticipated to be returned to Kerala in four days.

Following the initial Indian loss in the Israel-Hamas conflict, New Delhi has released a warning to Indian nationals residing in Israel.

“All Indian nationals residing in Israel are encouraged to relocate to safe places due to the current security situation and local safety advisories. This is especially important for individuals who work in or visit border areas in the north and south. The Indian embassy in Israel has stated, “The Embassy stays in contact with the Israeli authorities to ensure the safety of all our nationals.”

Since the start of the conflict, the Shia branch of Hezbollah has supported Hamas in northern Israel with missile and drone strikes.

The strikes on Israeli cities on October 7 sparked an Israel-Hamas conflict that has raged for almost five months. The Gaza Strip has seen thousands of deaths as a result of Tel Aviv’s ruthless counterattack. According to New Delhi, the violence and the ensuing humanitarian situation are extremely troubling.

The 2014 Gaza Conflict, known in Israel as Operation Protective Edge and in Palestine as the Gaza War, was marked by a severe escalation in violence between Israel and Hamas, the governing authority in the Gaza Strip. The conflict resulted in significant civilian casualties and destruction, highlighting the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza and the ongoing volatility in Israeli-Palestinian relations.

Conclusion

BHEL zooms 14% to 52-week high; up 250% in a year - Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd: Powering India’s Progress - The Hard News Daily

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) is a beacon of India’s industrial prowess, embodying the country’s journey towards self-reliance in the energy sector. Established in 1964, BHEL has grown from a heavy electrical equipment maker to a multinational engineering and manufacturing giant. This article delves into BHEL’s history, business model, and the pivotal figures who have steered the company through decades of innovation and growth. Designed for learners and enthusiasts in the business and energy sectors, this piece aims to provide a comprehensive overview of BHEL, highlighting its significance in India’s economic landscape and its influence on the global stage.

The Genesis and Evolution of BHEL

BHEL’s journey began in the post-independence era, a time when India was poised to lay the foundations for industrial development. Recognizing the critical need for heavy electrical equipment to support its burgeoning power sector, the Government of India set up BHEL with the vision of making the country self-sufficient in this vital industry.

The company started with the manufacture of a few essential products like turbines and boilers. Over the years, it expanded its portfolio to include a wide range of products and services across various sectors, such as power generation, transmission, industry, transportation, renewable energy, and defense.

Significant milestones in BHEL’s history include its foray into the export market in the 1970s, establishing its presence in over 80 countries, and diversifying into renewable energy sources in the 21st century. Today, BHEL is not just India’s largest engineering and manufacturing enterprise in the energy and infrastructure sectors but also one of the leading power equipment manufacturers globally.

Business Model: Engineering a Sustainable Future

At the core of BHEL’s success is its integrated and diversified business model. The company operates across three major business sectors:

Power, Industry, and International Operations.

Power Sector

BHEL’s power sector is its largest revenue generator, contributing to a significant portion of India’s power generation capacity. The company designs, engineers, manufactures, constructs, and services a wide array of power generation equipment. This includes thermal, nuclear, gas, and hydro-based power plants.

Industry Sector

The industry sector caters to a broad range of industries, providing products and services for sectors like transportation, renewables, oil & gas, and defense. BHEL’s offerings in this segment include electric locomotives, solar PV cells, electric buses, compressors, and industrial valves and pumps.

International Operations

BHEL’s international operations have seen the company making its mark in over 80 countries. It has successfully executed numerous engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects, including power plants, substations, and industrial projects, showcasing its global competencies.

Pivotal Figures in BHEL’s Journey

BHEL’s evolution from a national heavyweight to a global contender in the heavy electricals industry is attributed to the vision and leadership of its key figures. Notable among them are:

  • B. Prasada Rao: Serving as Chairman and Managing Director from 2009 to 2016, Rao played a crucial role in steering BHEL through challenging times, emphasizing innovation and sustainability.
  • B Prasada Rao - Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd: Powering India’s Progress - The Hard News Daily

The Road Ahead: Challenges and Opportunities

As the world moves towards cleaner and more sustainable energy sources, BHEL faces the dual challenge of staying ahead in the technology curve while ensuring environmental sustainability. The company is actively investing in research and development, focusing on next-generation technologies such as supercritical and ultra-supercritical thermal power plants, advanced materials for nuclear power plants, and solar energy.

Moreover, BHEL’s emphasis on digitalization, through initiatives like smart manufacturing and IoT-based solutions, aims to enhance operational efficiencies and offer state-of-the-art solutions to its clients.

BHEL Shares: An Investment Perspective

For investors, BHEL’s shares represent a stake in India’s growth story, particularly in the energy and infrastructure sectors. The company’s strategic shift towards renewables and digital technologies, combined with its robust order book and government backing, make it an interesting prospect for long-term investment. However, investors should also consider the cyclical nature of the power sector, regulatory changes, and global economic factors that could impact BHEL’s performance.

Conclusion

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd stands as a testament to India’s industrial evolution, playing a pivotal role in powering the nation’s progress. Through its diverse business model, commitment to innovation, and visionary leadership, BHEL has established itself as a key player in the global energy sector. As the company navigates the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century, its journey continues to be a source of inspiration and learning for businesses and individuals alike.

For learners and enthusiasts looking to understand the dynamics of India’s industrial and energy sectors, BHEL’s story offers valuable insights into the complexities of managing a large-scale, diversified public enterprise while adapting to the changing contours of the global energy landscape.

Introduction

In the vast expanse of India’s culinary landscape, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) stands as a pivotal entity, ensuring that the food consumed by billions adheres to stringent quality standards. This article delves into the history, business model, and key figures of FSSAI, offering learners an insightful glimpse into the workings of this critical organization. As the watchdog of India’s food safety, FSSAI’s role is both significant and extensive, impacting everyone from farm to fork.

A Brief History of FSSAI

Established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, FSSAI was borne out of the need for a unified regulatory body to address the fragmentation in food standards and enforcement. Before its inception, multiple laws governed food safety, leading to inconsistencies and regulatory overlaps. FSSAI was envisioned as a single reference point for all matters relating to food safety and standards, thereby simplifying the regulatory framework and enhancing consumer protection.

FSSAI’s Business Model and Operational Framework

Unlike conventional business entities, FSSAI operates under a unique model – a statutory body governed by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. Its primary business is not profit generation but ensuring food safety and compliance with standards across the country. The organization’s operational framework is built around four key pillars:

  1. Standard Setting: Developing scientific standards for food products and ensuring their compliance to safeguard public health.
  2. Compliance and Enforcement: Monitoring food businesses to ensure adherence to the established standards and regulations.
  3. Training and Capacity Building: Educating food business operators and consumers about food safety and standards.
  4. Consumer Empowerment: Informing the public about food safety, thereby empowering consumers to make informed choices.

FSSAI’s reach extends from regulatory oversight to active engagement with all stakeholders, including the government, businesses, consumers, and international bodies.

Key Personalities and Leadership

The effectiveness of FSSAI is largely attributed to its dynamic leadership and dedicated personnel. The organization is helmed by the Chairperson and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), who oversee its various departments and initiatives. The CEO, typically an IAS officer, plays a crucial role in steering FSSAI’s strategic direction and ensuring that it meets its objectives efficiently. Under their guidance, the FSSAI team works tirelessly to uphold food safety and hygiene standards across the nation.

Milestones and Achievements

Over the years, FSSAI has achieved several milestones that have significantly impacted India’s food safety ecosystem. These include the introduction of the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, which brought millions of food businesses under its purview. The ‘Eat Right India’ movement and ‘Food Fortification‘ initiatives stand out as commendable efforts to address public health concerns through dietary improvements.

FSSAI’s proactive approach during crises, such as the implementation of stringent safety measures during the COVID-19 pandemic, further underscores its commitment to public health and safety.

Challenges and Future Outlook

Despite its successes, FSSAI faces myriad challenges, including the vast and diverse nature of India’s food industry, limited resources, and varying levels of compliance across states. Addressing these challenges requires continuous innovation, increased public-private partnerships, and enhanced consumer awareness programs.

Looking ahead, FSSAI aims to leverage technology to streamline operations and enhance food safety surveillance. Initiatives like the Food Safety Compliance System (FoSCoS) and the use of AI and big data for risk assessment are steps in this direction. The organization’s commitment to international collaboration also paves the way for global best practices in India’s food safety mechanisms.

Conclusion

FSSAI’s journey from a nascent regulatory body to a key pillar in India’s food safety and health ecosystem is a testament to its unwavering commitment to ensuring safe, hygienic, and nutritious food for all. As learners delve into the intricacies of FSSAI’s operations, they uncover the layers of dedication and hard work that safeguard the nation’s food.
