In the now deleted video which is making rounds on internet she said, ““I’m so sorry. All my people are getting attacked. The children, I don’t understand. I wish I could do something.”
People on social Media are questioning her loyalty towards America after she called illegal aliens as “My people” and ask her whether she considers herself an American or not.
Lana Del ray, a popstar and a Trump supporter commented on Gomez’s now deleted video, “you should pack your bags and go back to Mexico. Take your abuela (Spanish for a person’s grandmother) with you”.
However, this is no the first time that Selena Gomez has made headlines related to the influx of migrants in the country.
in 2019, she even produced a documentary “Living undocumented” which showcased the conditions of migrant workers living in USA illegally and how they live daily under the fear of being deported under Trump administration. The documentary deliberately tried to humanize the conditions of migrants and create sympathy for them.
She has always been vocal about her views on the Trump administration during the first tenure and continuously raised her concerns over the treatment of the migrants in the country.
She has received both support and criticism from her fans all over the world.
However, the news agencies and critics have raised concerns over her misinformed statements and how her voice is always devoid of facts but is more diverted towards creating empathy for the illegal migrants in the country.
One user wrote, ” It’s not Trump’s immigration law against Mexicans and Latinos. It is U.S. law against people that enter the country illegally.”
