Mumbai:

Two passengers from Jeddah were intercepted by personnel of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mumbai Zonal Unit on Tuesday upon arrival at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai, based on specific intelligence acquired.

In an official release, DRI announced that during the search, they seized 1 kg of gold dust in wax form from each passenger. The substance had been specially stitched into their undergarments.

Additionally, investigators noticed that the three mixer grinders carried by the individuals apprehended weighed more than normal, so they checked them during the luggage inspection. Upon opening the component, approximately 2 kg of gold was discovered within. As a result, 4 kg of illegally imported gold, valued at 2.58 crore rupees, were retrieved.

Afterwards, it was discovered that two individuals were approaching the airport to collect the gold from the travelers.

The cops accordingly set up a trap and caught the targets in the act. These individuals confessed to their crime. Arrest warrants have been issued for the two passengers and both receivers in accordance with the applicable sections of the Customs Act 1962.

This operation is a direct result of DRI’s determination to bring down the growing gold smuggling syndicates.
